MComms Transcode converts live media streams from the internet, IPTV and capture cards into MobileTV and web streaming. A single video stream can be output in multiple formats such as H.263, MPEG2/4, H.264, WMV for iPhone, Blackberry, Windows Phone, PC and Mac.
Content providers often don't have the experience or equipment to encode in a mobile format directly and usually find it much easier to replicate a high bandwidth internet stream rather than create a new media stream in a mobile format. As internet feeds are typically encoded at rates higher than 128kbps, there is negligible quality loss when transcoding to much lower-rate mobile formats (compared to encoding from the original source directly to a mobile format).
How it works
The content provider makes a media stream available in any of the common IPTV or web streaming formats. MComms Transcode software is configured to connect to the content provider using one of the standard internet streaming protocols and download or stream the media using our high-availability software.
MComms Transcode software then converts the stream to an operator configured format such as H.264, MPEG2/4 or H.264, during this process the audio and video frame rates and video size can also be changed. Once the media format is converted, the stream is output to a streaming server (Apple Quicktime, Darwin, Real Helix, etc.) ready to be streamed to any mobile handset.
Vodafone and Bridge Mobile Alliance
MComms Transcode is currently being deployed by some of the largest mobile operators in the world, including members of the Vodafone group and Bridge Mobile Alliance. MComms Transcode is being used to convert streams from the internet, traffic cameras and IPTV into multiple formats compatible with all mobile phones.
